Less is More

The title, ‘Less is More’ is taken from a quote by architect, Mies van der Rohe, who felt that form should follow function.

This project, held at Cockpit Arts, introduced participants to contemporary architecture, and in particular the architecture of Mies Van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus art movement.

Through photographs, visits, videos and our own model making, the group gained a basic understanding of architecture and were able to use their imagination to build simple architectural models.

Stephen Darnborough, Bobby Ackers and Andrew Baxter, also learnt about the surrounding architecture of Cockpit Arts. They learnt to identify and record this architecture with a camera and used these resources to inspire them to design and build their own architectural models.

Using basic materials, like card, foam board and polystyrene, the group learnt new skills in card construction to produce good quality finished designs of their buildings.
